About Us

PREVENT-AMR is a multidisciplinary group tackling one of the most urgent health challenges of our time.

By integrating interdisciplinary research, fostering collaboration, and addressing societal and cultural challenges, the cluster aims to catalyze innovative solutions to prevent antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Using the One Health approach, the cluster turns research into action to help build a healthier, safer future for all.

Our cluster has several goals to address the global challenge of AMR through an integrated One Health approach specific to BC’s context and needs:

Enhance Surveillance and Detection

Develop a plan for implementation and integration of cutting-edge tools and methodologies for real-time surveillance and early detection of AMR pathogens across human, animal, and environmental interfaces.

Innovate Preventive Strategies

Create a framework for effective, sustainable interventions, including vaccine development and evidence for improved community-focused antibiotic stewardship programs to reduce reliance on antibiotics. Develop strategies to curb the spread of resistant pathogens through environmental channels, such as aquatic ecosystems, soil, and agricultural runoff.

Strengthen Policy Impact

Provide evidence-based insights into how best to shape provincial/national/international policies that promote equitable and effective AMR mitigation efforts. Initial activities will focus on a research framework for BC and the insights gained from this work will be transformed into broader concepts that shape public health policy and guide investments in AMR prevention at nationally and internationally.

Equitable and Inclusive Training and Education

Identify the best ways to address disparities in access to AMR prevention tools and interventions, ensuring that diverse and underserved populations benefit from the research outcomes, and cultivate a new generation of researchers equipped with interdisciplinary skills to address AMR challenges using a One Health framework. By fostering skills in both technical and collaborative domains, the cluster prepares the next generation of leaders to tackle AMR challenges.
